Two students sit at a table, Librarian stands at a podium behind them. The two students (Student A and Student B) are being a little too loud for the Librarian’s liking…
Student A: turns to Student B and begins casual conversation. Hey are you doing the Algebra homework? Man it was tough, right? I totally didn’t understand the graphing…
Librarian: glares at students. SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. You’re being too loud. This is a library, after all. Turns back to her work
Student B looks nervous and continues with his math. Student A looks apologetically at Student B. After flipping through a couple of pages of his book, Student A leans close to Student B and whispers…
Student A: Hey…pssst…what did you get for number twenty-four…
Librarian: glares at students again, and this time, more angrily, says… SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. You’re being far too loud. This is a library after all.
Student A and Student B look frightened and turn back to their work. After a couple of seconds, Student A begins to use sign language to ask Student B what a quadratic function is. The Librarian responds by turning around and grabbing Student A’s hand and says…
Librarian: SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. You’re being far too loud. This is a library after all!!
Student A: stuttering. Bu…but I wasn’t even talking!!
Librarian: says in a somewhat venomous tone. I could hear your hands moving!
Student A slumps down in his seat and rests his chin against his hand, looking forlorn. Another actor, standing off to the side with his back to the audience, projects his voice to represent Student A’s thoughts (Student A’s Brain Actor). Similarly, the Librarian will also have a “brain actor”…
He thinks to himself…
Student A’s Brain Actor: Geez! This lady is really cracking down on the law! She…
Librarian’s Brain Actor: SHHHHI you’re being far too loud. I can hear you thinking from all the way over there! You need to be quieter…this is a library after all…
Librarian turns around and smiles devilishly and shows that the book she was reading is titled “How to Enter Other People’s Minds”
