Writing a Two Minute Play

Ravid, Cam and Billie are sitting in the AC lobby talking on Thursday, February 24, the day the two minute plays are due…

Ravid: Hey friends, we should make a play for the two minute play competition!

Cam: Ehh, I don’t know if we should. We aren’t exactly the most creative kids ever.

Billie: Yeah there’s no way our play will ever win.

Ravid: Oh c’mon guys, it’ll be fun to try, plus we can get extra credit just for submitting one.

Cam: David does have a point, Billie. What do we have to lose?

Billie: I guess you guys are right; we should give it a shot. I need that extra credit.

Ravid: If we give it our all, maybe we can become finalists and get even more extra credit!

Cam: Yeah but that will take forever.

Ravid: We only have an hour before this thing is due so we should probably get to work.

Billie: I say we just think of something quick, and settle for the 10 points for submitting.

Cam and Ravid: Okay!

Billie: So what’s something easy we could write our play about?

Ravid: It doesn’t matter, just what ever you think of first, even if it’s dumb.

Cam: Why don’t we just make our play about writing one of these plays? It will totally seem like we put forth effort.

Ravid: That is really dumb! But the judges will probably fall for it.

Cam: Alright, Billie, just start writing random dialogue. It’ll help fill time.

Billie: Okay and we can add unnecessary silence to take up the rest of the time!

(Silence, everyone looking around waiting for two minutes to be up)

All: Perfect!

  1. Self-reflexive parody or cynical ploy at extra credit points? You decide.
