DOWN HOME WITH THE WINDSORS

Setting: Buckingham Palace, London

Christmas Afternoon, December 25, 2011

Present in the Drawing Room, lounging about. Members of the Royal Family sitting around the Christmas tree, playing Backgammon, enjoying a roaring fire, relaxed and casual and carefree. In attendance: Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Princess Anne. Each member wearing a sign with their formal name; i.e.: Prince Charles, Princess Anne, etc. The newlywed Kate Middleton wears a sign saying: Princess Kate, and another sign on her back with the word “commoner”

Enter Footman.

Footman: “Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth and His Royal Highness, Prince Phillip.”

Enter Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip.

Members of the Royal Family jump to their feet, smooth out their clothing, straighten their posture, and nervously prepare to be received by the Queen.

From this point on, the attitude in the room is converted to a formal atmosphere. All bow or curtsey to the Queen. Then mayhem erupts while each of the royal women attempt to curtsey to one another. It becomes obvious that executing the protocol of curtsey hierarchy takes the place of any other personal interaction.

Kate curtseys to the Queen

Anne unhappily curtseys to Kate

Beatrice & Eugenie curtsey to Anne but refuse to curtsey to commoner Kate.

William (future King) displays unhappiness at the treatment of his bride.

Camilla sheepishly curtseys to Kate.

All bow and curtsey without stopping, eventually not knowing who to curtsey to…

Confusion continues and the curtain closes.
