There is a bench. A girl at first is alone reading her book. Paying too much attention to the book, she runs into a boy with a bag as he is walking into the scene. The boy grabs her arms to keep her from falling and as she retains her balance she looks into his eyes and begins to smile. She is attracted to him. After he smiles back and shakes her hand, she turns to the audience and motions that her heart is beating while he looks through his bag to make sure he didn’t drop anything. She quickly turns back and begins a conversation silently and through action. (Note: in the dialogue the characters may mouth the words but cannot say anything. They must convey the words with actions like mimes.
Girl: So what do you do (rubs her fingers together like motioning about money)
Boy: I work in an office (pretends to be sitting in a cubicle and typing) its very boring (pretends to be snoring)
Girl: ‘laughs’ (bends over holding her stomach, wipes a tear from an eye. She looks and realizes he doesn’t think it’s that funny and looks at her feet in embarrassment.)
Boy: (He thinks it’s cute and begins to chuckle too and lifts her chin to look at him and know its ok)
Girl: (She smiles, lost in his eyes. She closes her eyes and begins to lean into him as if to kiss)
Boy: (As she leans in, he spots a flower on the ground and goes to pick it up.)
Girl: (The girl nearly falls as he does so and stumbles to get her footing. Her expression is moody as she acknowledges her failed attempt.)
Boy: (He presents the flower to her, smiling brilliantly as he does so, and motions that the flower, like her, is pretty. He does so by pointing to the flower, laying his hand on his cheek and batting his eyelashes, then motioning towards her.)
Girl: (She blushes. She starts to faint, but the boy quickly catches her.)
Boy: Would you like to get a drink? (Pretends he is drinking something then motioning towards her.)
Girl: (Nods her head in agreement very rapidly and has to stop herself by grabbing her own head. She says she needs to call someone before they go by making a pretend cell phone motion with her hand to the boy so he understands. She rushes forward, draws a box in the air like a telephone booth, then steps in and dials a number on the pay phone. She begins to tell her friend what just happened, talking excited as she speaks into the receiver.
Boy: (As the girl talks in the telephone booth, another girl, promiscuous and a man-eater, sees the boy and decides to entice him. She pretends to trip into him. He catches her and asks if she is all right. She says she’s fine and admires how strong he is as she feels his arms. He’s eating this up. She then pretends to drop her pen, and then does the Legally Blonde move called the
Girl: (She just got done talking on the phone soon enough to see the couple walk off and the evil girl wave to her. Heart-broken, she stumbles and falls to the ground, starting to cry whole-heartedly, feeling forgotten and inferior, and clutching the flower. She looks up, and seems to be trying to say something, but is having trouble since in this world no one talks. She manages to croak out two words after the distant couple) “I’m here.”
This play may ask too much in the way of miming.
