Lunch Time

Open scene. Two student are sitting in the front row of a class-room (just four chairs) with a teacher standing at the front next to a white-board. The teacher is lecturing on any subject and the students may whisper to each other from time to time (all dialogue is inconsequential). Enter man in a gorilla suit. The gorilla walks in and takes a seat behind the two students, the teacher does not acknowledge him. Enter man in a banana suit. The banana walks in until he spots the gorilla. The gorilla spots the banana at about the same time and the banana attempts to escape through the other side of the stage. The gorilla catches the banana, forcing him down onto his back in-between the student and the teacher, proceeding to maul him until the banana is apparently dead. The gorilla then grabs the banana by his legs attempts to drag him off stage. The gorilla is then interrupted by a shout from the opposite end of the room. A gang of three to four other bananas enter onto the stage, each is holding some sort of gang-type weapon (ex. they could have a switchblade, chains, a bat, samurai sword). A gang-fight ensues between the bananas and the gorilla (one or two other gorillas could join in if desired) , culminating in the bananas forming a tight circle around the downed gorilla, beating him senselessly. The bananas then exit the stage, fist bumping and high-fiving to celebrate their victory. The dead banana and gorilla remain on stage. End scene.

Throughout the play the teacher will be writing various things on the white-board. The board will have the title "The Great Banana Uprising" and there will be one or two drawings of bananas on the board. The board will also include things such as "Banana = Working Class, Role Reversal and Great Chain of Being (perhaps under a motifs sub-section), and [drawing of a banana] = Phallic Imagery," or any other things the English department may or may not deem necessary. The teacher and students may feign speech, but should never talk during the play.
