Mothers Don’t Only Know Best:

They Know ALL!

FADE IN:

INT. Girl’s Bedroom - Evening

A girl, around the age of 15, lounges on a bean bag chair located in the corner of her room. She holds a book in her hand and a pencil in her mouth, there is a highlighter laying to the left of her chair. Her cell phone lays on her desk located to the right of where the girl sprawls.

Her phone vibrates. She slowly looks up, looks down then gets up to answer her phone. She places it on speaker and continues to work on her reading.

GIRL

Hello?

MOM

Ah ha! I knew you weren’t doing your homework!

GIRL

Wait, what? Mom YOU just called ME. And if I wouldn’t have answered you definitely wouldn’t have believed that I was working.

The Girl sneezes.

GIRL

Excuse me.

MOM

Who is that sneezing!!!??? Who are you saying excuse me to!? I knew you were lying!

GIRL

Mom! What? You sound like a maniac! That was ME who sneezed and I was saying excuse me to YOU because of it.

The Girl’s mom hangs up.

GIRL

Mom? Hello? Mom? Hello? Hello?

The Girl’s mom busts in her room as if on a mission.

MOM

Who are you on the phone with?!! I knew you weren’t doing your work! I just knew it!

GIRL

MOM! I was on the phone with YOU! You hung up on me!

MOM

Mm hmm! You’re so full of it!

GIRL

(frustrated)

What! Are! You! Talking about!

Her mom stares with a crazed look. She walks around the room in search for anything suspect. After walking around the room she comes to a halt near the same place she stood before. After staring at one another, the girl looking annoyed and the mother looking suspicious, the Girl’s mom walks up to her daughter and inspects her clothing. After lifting up both of her arms, smelling and picking through her hair the mother slowly backs out of the room.

The Girl runs to make sure her mom is not standing by the door. Looking both left and right she rushes back to the center of her room.

GIRL

(whisper)

You can come out now.

A boy around the age of 17 comes out of the closet His hair is ruffled as if he was hidden within the cluster of clothes for over a week.

BOY

(bothered)

She does that every night! Your closet is now my temple.

The girl rolls her eyes and pulls the boy close. As they slowly begin to embrace the girl’s mom runs in wearing protective goggles and holding a bat. They quickly let go of each other and the boy begins to dart for the closet, however his pants fall to his ankles causing him to topple over.

GIRL

(speechless)

I…

MOM

Don’t worry. I’ll give you some time to think of the rest of your sentence, that way you can share it with your father when he comes home.

The mother smiles cynically. The boy gets up, pulls on his pants and runs. The daughter walks towards her bean bag chair to continue to read, her face completely sunken. Her mother, who still wears the goggles, leans on the bat.
