Indeed there will be time

*Though this play consists mostly of stage directions, it’s in no way set in stone. It can be staged however you see fit as long as there’s a real feeling of awkward inner conflict.

Sitting down in a chair, the actor—after sitting and fidgeting for a few moments—stands up immediately and hurries towards the apron of the stage.

The actor opens his/her mouth to speak, unable to get any words out. After moments of awkward silence, he then promptly turns and sits back in the seat.

Here, the actor mutters to himself and makes emphatic hand gestures, as if he is planning what he/she is trying to say.

After running through a few versions in this method (with the frustrations as if he’s crinkling up pages out of a notebook and throwing them into a mental trash can), he stands up again to give it another go.

Carefully walking to the stage, methodically taking each step, he takes a deep breath and attempts to speak.

After scanning around the audience, he freaks himself out and sits back down.

After sitting in the chair for an almost excruciatingly long time in silence, he looks at his watch and leaves, disappointed in himself.
