The Grass is Green

Kane and Abe stand at center stage with their backs slightly turned away. Abe pulls out device out of his pocket and starts playing with it disinterestedly. Kane’s attention is caught and his interest piqued.
Kane: Hey, what’s that?
Abe: Oh, nothing.
Kane: No, really. What chu got there?
Abe: Oh, this? …oh, um… It’s a hóchiko.
Kane: A hóchiko?
Abe: Yah, I use it for… um … in order to … clean my flowers.
Kane: Oh, of course. Why didn’t I think of that?
Abe shrugs his shoulders and makes an “I don’t know” expression before turning away slightly.
Kane briefly looks over at Abe, turns his back, and pulls out a similar object and starts playing with it more rapidly. Abe feels a sense of jealously and walks over to Kane.
Abe: Uh… Do you have a hóchiko, too?
Kane: Oh, me? Uh… no. This is … a… paratín.
Abe: A paratín?
Kane: Yah, of course… I use it to… plant my garden.
Abe: Oh, you like flowers, too?
Kane: No. …Just vegetables.
Abe: Oh, I don’t eat vegetables.
Kane: Me neither.
Abe: Well… why do you…?
Kane: (Interrupting Abe) Oh they’re for the neighbors.
Abe: Of course, why didn’t I think of that?
Kane shrugs his shoulders and makes an “I don’t know” expression before turning away slightly.
After a slight pause, Abe thinks for a second, then comes over to Kane and offers him this proposition.
Abe: Hey, you wanna trade your paratín for my hóchiko?
Kane: Thought you’d never ask.
Kane and Abe trade objects with nice smiles on their faces, in anticipation of their of their new tools.
Abe: Now I can plant…
Kane: (finishing Abe’s sentence) …Your vegetables
Abe: And you can clean…
Kane: (finishing Abe’s sentence) …My flowers
Kane and Abe nod with approval in unison then stare at each other for a moment surprised as if they are unsure of what transaction just occurred. They walk away from center stage for six paces and in unison turn to the each other and cry out the following line.

Kane and Abe: But, weh… I don…

Curtain!
