Cast of Characters
Girl, Very shy and is in love with Boy. Tries to communicate with boy.
Boy, bored with girl and is more interested in book than what girl has
to say
(Scene takes place in the apartment complex of boy. It is a chilly night. The stars are out. There is an awkward feeling between the two. Boy is not concerned with the girl.)
Girl
Hey! (blushing, shy, acting as if she was in love)
Boy
Hey (not very interested. Reading a book)
Girl
So…how is everything?
Boy
Alright.
Girl
What are you doing?
Boy
(Hold up book, as if annoyed) I’m okay.
Girl
Did you know you look ever so lovely when you read a book?
Boy
Thanks. (raise eyebrows)
Girl
So. Yea… um. Like what is the big deal between you and that girl. Whats her face? Veronica? Yea. Like who is she? You guys are always like together. Like always.
Boy
My sister. Veronica is my sister.
Girl
Oh. Okay. Well. So you wanna do something? Like go out. Or get something to eat.
Boy
Nope (reading book intensely)
Girl
Can I ask you a question?
Boy
Um…sure (look bored)
Girl
What is love like. Does if feel more like a butterfly in the spring air or more like a hug by the fire place or is it like sitting under the night sky counting stars?
Boy
(Long Pause, Not even listening) You can’t even count stars. There’s too many. There are billions and trillions of them out there.
Girl
(Not really listening now, lost in own world. Dance around the stage as if in love and steals glances at Girl.) Well. I think love is like a hug or kiss beside the fire place. It’s the dead of night outside. The temperature outside is…cold. Very cold. Like so cold, I’m gonna die if I’m not wrapped around you… (Blushing)
Boy
What did you say? (look up from book)
Girl
Oh, nothing. I was just saying that is cold right now.
Boy
Yeah. It kinda is. (looking very interestedly at book) You can sit here if you want. (Point to couch.)
Girl
Okay! Sure. I mean if its okay with you. Well. Are you sure about this. I mean. If you are too busy we can do this another day. (Pretend Shiver)
Boy
Yea yea, you can sit here.
Girl
Do you mind turning the fire place on.
Boy
Yea. Sure. (Concentrating on Book)
Girl
You know how we’ve been friends forever right?
Boy
(Nod Head. Concentrating on Book)
Girl
There has been something that I need to tell you.
Boy
(Nod head. Concentrating on Book)
Girl
I am very lonely in this world and you know I need a man.
Boy
Yea. Sure. Whatever. (Concentrating on Book)
Girl
I need that support in my life.
Boy
Yea. Sure. Of course you do (Concentrating on Book)
Girl
Can I sit like this? (position back and one arm on man)
Boy
(Nod head. Concentrating on Book)
Girl
This is nice.
Boy
(Nod head. Concentrating on Book)
Girl
(looking at man closely) you have something on your face
Boy
Yea. Sure. Whatever. (Concentrating on Book)
Girl
Let me get that for you.
Boy
Yea. Sure. Whatever. (Concentrating on Book)
Girl
(gets really in as if about to kiss him then stops) I’m going home.
Boy
(Nod head. Concentrating on Book)
Girl
Yea. Sure. Whatever! (Takes book and throws it across stage)
Boy
Hey! I was almost done! Are you leaving?
