Elizabeth, a very highly qualified individual, is forced to look for jobs that may seem well beneath her due to the economic crisis.
Interviewer: Your name and age please.
Elizabeth: My name is Elizabeth Norman and I am 43 years old.
Interviewer: Tell me Ms. Norman a little bit about your background, including your education.
Elizabeth: Well I graduated from a prestigious high school in Deer Springs Oklahoma, where I lived all my life. I was valedictorian of my graduating class, and graduated with honors in all of my courses, including numerous AP’s. I then went on to Stanford University where I received a Regent Scholarship. I majored in business, and after receiving my 4 year degree I went on to receive my MBA at Northwestern University. I maintained honors all throughout college and was also class speaker at Stanford during my junior and senior years. In addition, At Northwestern I received the John L. Dole Award for my community service work on campus.
Interviewer: And tell me a little bit about your work experience.
Elizabeth: Certainly. I began as a corporate research analyst at Gateway Computers. I then became senior vice president in charge of internal operations at Gateway before transferring over to Dell where I headed their planning and finance department.
Interviewer: And your most recent position was…
Elizabeth: Until recently I was the VP in charge of the planning and finance department at Circuit City.
Interviewer: And currently you are…
Elizabeth: Unemployed.
Interviewer: So why do you think you are right for an associate store clerk position at Sears?
Elizabeth: Well I think I am a fast learner, but more importantly, a hard worker. Waking up every day and realizing that I might not have enough food to feed my children breaks my heart. We’ve had to sell our car, we’ve had to move to a smaller house, and this past week we had to move our kids to a more affordable public school. It’s those things that really inspire me to work hard. I want to provide for my family again.
Interviewer: Unfortunately you aren’t really what we are looking for at the moment Ms. Norman. As you know we have many applicants for only a few store clerk positions. I do apologize but also want to thank you for coming out today.
Elizabeth: Thanks for your time. I have an interview at Starbucks across the street. Hopefully I can be more successful there.
